Canadian Psychedelic Companies And What They Are Up To?

Canada has been at the forefront of developing psychedelics into something that helps treat mental health issues. While our society has not always supported psychedelics, it is now interesting to see how psychedelics are on the verge of transforming mental health treatment.

Here are some of the Canadian psychedelic companies that are constantly working on various drug development. Let’s see what they got in their store.

1. Bright Minds Biosciences

Bright Minds Biosciences is a biotech company that develops various next-generation and novel drugs to treat epilepsy, neuropsychiatric disorders and pain. Their great focus is on serotonergic (“5-HT”) drug candidates, which is quite a promising lineup.

These drugs target 5-HT2C, 5-HT2A/C, and 5-HT2A receptors, aiming to remove the toxicity related to 5-HT2B. With a talented team of neuropsychiatrists and their combined drug discovery experience, Bright Minds Biosciences is looking forward to using its proprietary next-generation serotonin agonists to target neurocircuitry abnormalities responsible for dysfunctional behaviours. Along with effectiveness, the company is also focused on providing safe and tolerable drugs.

Recently, Bright Minds Biosciences has been collaborating with the National Institutes of Health for programs focused on preclinical screening for pain indications and another for the treatment drugs for epilepsy.

2. Numinous Bioscience

MDMA is one of the drugs proven to be highly effective against PTSD patients that survive mass shootings, physical or sexual abuse. Numinous Bioscience is a psychedelic company that is almost leading the psychedelic-assisted mental health care industry and has been developing MDMA-assisted therapy.

The company has recently secured two Canadian psychedelic clinics, where they are looking forward to hosting a study related to MDMA-assisted psychotherapy.

Both the clinics are compliant with Health Canada regulations and well-prepared for trials. The company will also host MAPPUSX sites like Montreal and Vancouver to study the safety and efficacy of MDMA for treatment against PTSD.

Twenty-five of the Numinous-affiliated therapists are trained to deliver MDMA-assisted therapy, and some of them will also involve in the Canadian sites of trial.

3. Mind Medicine

Mind Medicine is another psychedelic company focused on developing psychedelic-inspired therapies and now is partnering with Sphere Health. Sphere Health is a pharmaceutical manufacturer that provides treatments for severe mental illness.

Both the companies are working together to launch MM061302, a study that uses existing consumer technology. The aim is to provide a data set that will help develop machine learning tools that are more standard or precise. These tools help identify biomarkers that can help learn about anxiety and depression in their early stages.

The study will also help design or develop digital therapeutics to support specialized individual mental health care.

Conclusion

Many of the psychedelic companies in Canada are successfully developing drugs, waiting for FDA approval, while some are still working on trials. But we can surely say that Canadian psychedelics companies play a huge role in the mental health treatment industry.
